Treatment Overview

Hair restoration using IlluminatePRP™

Hair thinning and loss can be caused by a variety of factors—from genetics and aging to hormonal shifts and stress. Hair restoration using IlluminatePRP™ (platelet-rich plasma) is a natural, non-surgical solution that uses your body’s own regenerative power to stimulate dormant hair follicles, improve hair density, and slow the progression of thinning.

By isolating your own growth-factor-rich plasma and injecting it directly into the scalp, PRP promotes increased blood flow, encourages follicular regeneration, and boosts the natural growth cycle of your hair. This science-backed treatment is ideal for men and women experiencing early to moderate hair thinning and is especially effective for androgenic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness).

Over time, you’ll notice fuller, thicker, and healthier hair—without medications or invasive procedures. PRP Hair Restoration is a safe, evidence-based approach to hair regrowth and scalp revitalization, with minimal downtime and natural-looking results.

PRP Hair Restoration

Targets
PRP Hair Restoration is designed to address a range of hair thinning concerns for both men and women. It is especially effective for androgenic alopecia (commonly known as male or female pattern baldness), early to moderate hair thinning, receding hairlines, and widened part lines. The treatment also supports hair regrowth in postpartum shedding, strengthens weak or miniaturized follicles, and enhances overall scalp health. By improving blood flow and stimulating follicular activity, PRP helps restore thickness, density, and vitality to areas experiencing hair loss or thinning.

Overview
Hair follicles are highly sensitive to inflammation, hormonal shifts, and blood flow. As we age, many of us begin to experience a shortening of the hair growth cycle and weakening of the follicles—leading to shedding, thinning, and eventual hair loss.

PRP Hair Restoration harnesses the power of your own platelet-rich plasma to directly nourish and activate dormant follicles. After drawing a small amount of your blood, it’s spun in a centrifuge to isolate the PRP—an amber-colored serum packed with healing and growth-stimulating proteins. This PRP is then injected into the scalp using a fine needle, specifically targeting areas of thinning or recession.

These growth factors increase vascular supply to the follicle, reduce inflammation around the follicle bulb, and extend the active (anagen) phase of the hair cycle—resulting in stronger, thicker strands and reduced shedding. Over a series of treatments, PRP works to rejuvenate your scalp’s environment and awaken sluggish follicles.

PRP Hair Restoration is a proven therapy that has been widely used in dermatology and hair medicine for over a decade, and continues to grow in popularity due to its safety profile and effectiveness—especially in early-stage hair loss.

Treatment Plan
For optimal results, PRP Hair Restoration is typically performed as a series of treatments:

  • Initial Phase: 3–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart
  • Maintenance Phase: 1 session every 4–6 months, based on your hair loss pattern and goals

Most patients begin to see reduced shedding and early regrowth within 8–12 weeks, with more noticeable improvements in hair thickness and scalp coverage over 3–6 months. Continued treatments help preserve results and support long-term follicle health.

PRP can also be combined with other hair restoration methods such as topical minoxidil, Nutrafol supplements, or exosomes for enhanced outcomes. Your provider will develop a customized plan tailored to your needs and hair type.

What To Expect
If this is your first PRP Hair Restoration treatment, we’ll begin with a detailed consultation and scalp assessment to determine your candidacy and build your treatment protocol.

On the day of your procedure:

  • A small vial of your blood will be drawn and placed in a medical-grade centrifuge to isolate the PRP.
  • The scalp will be cleansed, and a topical anesthetic or cooling spray may be applied for comfort.
  • The PRP is injected into targeted areas of hair thinning or loss using a fine needle.
  • The entire process typically takes about 45 minutes.

Following your treatment, you may experience mild scalp tenderness, swelling, or redness for 24–48 hours. These effects are typically mild and resolve quickly. You can return to work and most normal activities the same day, though we recommend avoiding intense exercise and alcohol for 24 hours to reduce inflammation.

Visible hair growth takes time and consistency—PRP encourages gradual improvements in follicle function, thickness, and density over the course of several months.

Pre-Treatment Instructions

Four Days Prior To Treatment

  • Avoid taking ibuprofen, aspirin, vitamin E, and ginkgo biloba to reduce your risk of bruising or bleeding.
  • Avoid alcohol, which can thin your blood and increase bruising risk.

Two Days Prior To Treatment

  • Avoid topical retinoids, retinol, or harsh scalp treatments.
  • Refrain from hair coloring, chemical straightening, or perming your hair.
  • Avoid hair removal methods like waxing or depilatory creams near the treatment area.

Day of Treatment

  • Wash your hair thoroughly with a gentle shampoo the morning of your appointment; do not apply styling products or hair spray.
  • Have a snack and hydrate well an hour before your appointment, as your blood will be drawn for PRP preparation.

Aftercare & Recovery

  • Results develop gradually; initial improvements can begin in 2–3 months, with full results appearing after a series of treatments over 4–6 months.
  • Mild redness, soreness, or swelling of the scalp may occur after treatment, typically resolving within 1–3 days.
  • Resume normal activities immediately; however, avoid intense exercise, sweating, and alcohol for 24 hours post-treatment to help reduce swelling and optimize healing.
  • Avoid washing your hair for at least 24 hours after treatment to allow the PRP to absorb fully.
  • Avoid using hair dryers, curling irons, or other heated styling tools on the treated area until any redness or tenderness subsides.
  • Refrain from applying hair dyes, harsh shampoos, or chemical treatments for at least one week post-treatment.
  • Sleep with your head elevated the first night if you experience swelling.
  • Protect your scalp from prolonged sun exposure by wearing a hat or applying sunscreen to any exposed scalp once cleared to do so by your provider.

Side Effects

  • Common side effects of PRP hair restoration include mild scalp tenderness, redness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding, or minor bruising at injection sites.
  • Temporary headache or tightness of the scalp can occur as part of the healing process.

After many months without a skin care treatment, I went in yesterday for my first dermaplane and hydrafacial experience yesterday based on a friends recommendation. Monica was my super esthetician and she is amazing. She is very knowledgeable about products and treatments. I had a bunch of skincare questions and Monica was really informative. I know there are other advanced procedures at Elinea such as Botox, injectables, etc but for me and for now, I am happy taking small steps in my journey to great skin. Elinea is a warm and beautiful new space in the Castro. I am booking my next skincare treatment now!

I've been getting facials for years and when a friend recommended Elinea, which I thought was strictly a MedSpa, I thought why not? I've been to a number of salons in the city and like to keep my options open. Monica did a hydrofacial for me which was truly one of the best immediate gratifications facially I can remember. The next day, I looked seriously five years younger. My skin was taut, supple and super hydrated...many fine lines were minimized. I'm definitely going to get this treatment again. Monica knows her stuff.
